Toothpaste generally has the purpose of cleaning the teeth. It is a substance similar to paste, with the help of cleaning agents, medicated additives and flavors, which is applied to the teeth through a toothbrush.
It cleans the teeth and adds minerals. It also maintains the gums in a healthy condition.
Regular daily use of a toothbrush and toothpaste is a basic requirement for healthy oral hygiene. If brushing is frequently neglected, it can quickly lead to tooth decay.
For patients of an alternative practitioner, it is advisable to avoid menthol or peppermint flavored toothpaste if they are also using homeopathy.
Benefits in the medical and health context
In general, there is widespread agreement on the health benefits of toothpaste. Regular use of toothpaste when brushing teeth can help prevent tooth decay, cavities and periodontitis. It removes food residues such as fruit acid or sugar along with so-called plaque and reduces susceptibility to tartar formation.
